today i was practice how to make lapis legit, for maked this cake isn't easy, and we got 3 chance for make this cake and this is was the first time i make lapis legit.
What is Lapis Legit ?
Lapis legit or spekuk (Dutch: Spekkoek) is one kind of the
wet cake of Indonesian traditional. This cake was first developed during the
Dutch colonial period in Indonesia, which is inspired from a layer cake of
Europe. Lapis legit made of various kinds of spices that is very liked by the
people of Europe, among them are cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and anise
so that it tastes very distinctive rich aroma of spices.
Cakes made from egg yolk, flour, sugar, and butter/margarine
it has a sweet taste with a texture that is soft but sturdy. Cookie dough baked
in the oven gradually to form a coating-layer which is generally about 18
layers or more. Because of the many layers on the cake, this cake also known as
cake of a thousand layers.
In Indonesia, this cake is very popular. Lapis legit usually
served on special occasions and feast days, such as Chinese new year, Eid, and
Christmas. This cake is also presented as a gift in celebration-the celebration
of the local, such as wedding day and birthday. In the Netherlands, the sliced
cake is usually served as a snack or dessert in the feast rijsttafel.
Lapis legit evolved during the Dutch colonial period in
Indonesia. In the beginning, the cake is named original spekkoek was brought by
the people of the Netherlands to Indonesia. The cake is then got the influence
of the local population. Indonesian people modify it by using local ingredients
including added spices that are customized with their tongues.
As it grows, this cake is known with the name of the lapis
legit because the cake has many layers with a very sweet taste. Among Chinese
people, the lapis legit has a deeply-rooted history. Lapis legit be serving
mandatory at the celebration of the Lunar New Year. They believe if more and
more layers on the cake is, the more exponentially sustenance to be obtained.
